Most recent information from Cancer Research UK
Five-year survival rates for bowel cancer have doubled over the last 40 years, but it is still the second most common cause of death from cancer in the UK.
Screening remains one of the best ways to spot bowel cancer earlier. Patients are more likely to survive bowel cancer if it is diagnosed at an earlier stage.
When diagnosed at the earliest stage, more than 9 in 10 bowel cancer patients in the UK will survive for more than five years, but for those diagnosed at the latest stage this drops to less than 1 in 10. Bowel cancer screening is an effective way to diagnose patients earlier.
We are promoting awareness and information about the bowel cancer screening programme, so patients can make an informed choice.
